CASTEL GRUMELLO OF MONTAGNA IN VALTELLINA OF SONDRIO

shadow

Castel Grumello is a 13th-century castle located in the town of Montagna in Valtellina in the province of Sondrio.
It is placed on a hill (or "lumpy", local name from which the name derives) in a strategic position, on a sloping slope hardly reachable by any enemy.
It is a gemini castle, made up of two separate buildings, joined by a wall almost completely disappeared and seems to have belonged to Ghibellino Corrado de 'Piro.
It was destroyed in 1512 following the occupation of Valtellina by the Grisons, together with the nearby castle of Mancapane.

It is currently owned by the Italian Environment Fund, which has taken care of its recovery with cultural use.
